Charlestown won the first game in Newcastle 3-1 and the second at Taree 2-0. The first match was postponed from earlier in the year due to flooding.
The results leave Mid Coast in second last spot, although they still have a game in hand.
There's further bad news for the Middies, as Jess Watts won't play again this year.
"She has to have surgery on her ankle, so she's out for the season,'' coach Mick Grass said.
Grass said a failure to capitalise on goal scoring opportunities was evident in both games. The Middies also forfeited possession to easily.
"We fought back to 2-1 on Saturday and were right in it. We started pushing bodies forward in a bid to get the equaliser, but they ended up scoring one in injury time,'' Grass said.
He said Mid Coast started slowly in the second game and conceded two goals.
"We threw everything at them from there, but we just couldn't find the back of the net,'' he said.
Grass said Kirrilee Hughes and Kiana Osmond-Dreyer were the pick for Mid Coast over the two games. However, a back injury sustained by Josie Mays is expected to sideline her for at least one game.
Grass agreed that Mid Coast are will have to string some wins together if they're going to challenge for a berth in the semi-finals.
"We need to hold onto possession for longer and we're just not doing that at the moment,'' he said.
"We need to get some goals.''
Mid Coast will play fifth placed Adamstown Rosebuds at Taree next Sunday, May 30.
