Unfortunately, replays showed the club's under-23 men's championship tilt was over by the barest of margins.
Sweep Steve Monaghan said they challenged the decision, but there was little more they could do.
"It was a controversial semi-final finish," he said.
"They required a fourth to continue in the competition, but the two towers gave them a fourth and a fifth so despite asking the question it ended their campaign right there."
The club's open men's crew raced during the week in flat conditions which suited the still water crews and not the surf crews.
They were the first to bow out after racing against the top crews in the country including former Australian champions and Ocean Thunder crews.
"The full Cassowaries were not disgraced and put in a top effort for the club," Monaghan said.
Their under 23 ladies crew have been together for a few seasons and are highly regarded by other clubs, helping put Wauchope Bonny Hills on the radar with finals wins and appearances over the past years.
"They were knocked in the quarter finals this year," Monaghan said.
"Our surfboat season is now over and we look forward to getting back into the boats later in the year."
