Comboyne discovered that in their 60-16 hammering of Lake Cathie on Saturday in a match which again highlighted the Raiders' defensive frailties.
Raiders captain Jarid Bruen has some genuine concerns about his team's mentality without the footy as they have now conceded nearly 150 points in three games.
"We're still not performing quite well and are having tries scored against us so there's definitely a defensive problem," he said
"We're not talking to each other in defence and once the (opposition) get on a roll, my boys drop their heads which has happened in the last couple of games," he said.
"They don't think of a way to come back from it."
In attack, they have shown glimpses of what they are capable of and Bruen has no concerns about their ability of scoring points.
But when possession shifts is where the problem lies.
"When we attack I'm not too worried about that ... I'm worried about dropped balls because when we seem to attack, we seem to score tries," he said.
"But we really need to fix up our defence."
However, the Raiders' readmission back into the competition has seen them take on two of the premiership contenders in the opening three rounds.
It doesn't get any easier after they bank two competition points from the bye this weekend when they host defending premiers South West Rocks.
"Once we do get a first win I think it will help us a lot," Bruen said.
"We've run into the top two teams in our first three games which is hard as a new team and it breaks our hopes a bit.
"But it's a building phase for us this year; we'll be better for it."
