Stay-at-home public health orders resulted in a large portion of New South Wales being locked down which meant the competition was only for Mid North Coast competitors.
Kumiai Ryu Port Macquarie coach Kevin Blundell said it was still a strong few days of competition.
"We had pretty much first or second-timers from our club and they all picked up seconds and thirds and a few firsts, but the influence of karate in the Olympics piqued a little bit of interest," he said.
"In the under-13 boys we had Lachlan Fettell who went good, while Lillian Clover was strong in the under-13 girls division. They've got a good future.
"We also had Aniva Talamaivao who is a real rising star and has superstar potential. She's one for the future who has good fighting spirit and is very respectful."
The tournament saw around 80 competitors attend.
"A lot of the teens and the adults didn't compete because they didn't want to wear masks," Blundell said.
