The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called to the scene at 8.20pm on Friday, May 21 after reports a man was trapped in his car after a serious rollover.
The multi-agency response included crews from NSW Ambulance and police.
Paramedics on scene commenced treatment as emergency services extracted the male driver from the wreckage.
He was conveyed to Port Macquarie airport to rendezvous with the helicopter due to low cloud and fog at the scene.
The Helicopter Critical Care Medical Team continued to treat and stabilise the man for serious head injuries before being airlifted direct to John Hunter Hospital in serious condition for further treatment.
The driver was trapped for an unknown amount of time before he was located by a passing motorist who notified emergency services.
