Twenty-year old Port Macquarie filmmaker Rylee Parry was crowned Young Regional Filmmaker on April 18.
Jordan Frith, also from Port Macquarie, was named runner up in the 18 to 25s section and North Haven director Aaron Bruggermann won an award for Best Sound Production.
"Myself and my two friends all made it to the finals in the 18 to 25s category. We all helped each other in acting and filming," she said.
"I went into the night not expecting to get an award but I was just happy to be there. I was so proud when Aaron won the best sound production award and Jordan won the runner-up for young regional filmmaker.
"Then they said my name and I was like 'what?', I just froze. A couple of my friends had to shake me, snap me back to go and accept the award."
Miss Parry's six-minute film called "Remember the Waltzing, Matilda" was made in August last year and is inspired by a poem of the same name, written by Jim Haynes.
"It's a historical drama about the life of a lady named Tilly, whose husband doesn't come back from the Kokoda Track in World War II," she said.
"I based my idea off the poem and used my voice to tell the story as a voiceover.
"I was used to that particular poem because I've performed it at speech and drama eisteddfods. Often when I was delivering that poem I pictured a movie in my head of what it was about.
"Everyone knows someone who has that connection with war and those left behind.
"It's bittersweet and delicate. This lady is just happy to have lived her life, but she's so sad that he never returned, she never had kids and that's quite sad."
Miss Parry said her passion and dream is to continue in film making and one day direct or act in a feature film.
