Port Macquarie Magpies started their 2021 AFL North Coast junior season on the right note with a comfortable 41-point win over Nambucca Valley on Sunday (April 18).
The Flyers were rarely troubled in their under-11 fixture on the way to an 11.8 (74) to 5.3 (33) victory.
Coach Daniel Fryer said it was a pleasing way to start the season.
"It was great just to get out on the field after Easter and floods and things like that," he said.
"The kids have only had a few training sessions so it was good to get into the footy."
Fryer said his side had a good mix of kids who were there last year sprinkled in with a few new additions.
"We've got two under-11 sides this year - the Swoopers and the Flyers - so it should be a good year," he said.
Port Macquarie got better as the match progressed with their basic skills contributing to the win.
"For the first game of the season and not having too much practice time, we were still finding people in space which was pleasing," the coach said.
