Instead, the HSC class of 2020 continued to work hard to produce incredible results and rank among the state's elite.
HSC results for all Port Macquarie-Hastings year 12 students will be out on December 18.
Across the college's practical courses, no fewer than 16 students earned nominations for HSC showcases meaning their final projects and performances in Drama, Visual Arts, Dance, Music and Industrial Technology were considered the best in the state.
This year, five MacKillop College students were nominated for InTech, the showcase of best Industrial Technology - Timber projects. Rahni McKellar, Noah Battinson, Byron Kipreotis, Tom Osborne and TJ Avery were all recognised for their fine craftsmanship.
The MacKillop music class also excelled; four students were nominated for Encore including singers Grace Prab and Francesca Plentinger, saxophonist Robbie Moore, and flautist Taryin McIntrye.
Three drama students received nominations for OnStage - Phoebe Hiatt, Savana Sumksy, and Georgina Saad - while dance students Lily Heath and Amelia Munro were nominated for Callback.
MacKillop College curriculum coordinator and drama teacher Jo Stuart said it was a highly unusual year for HSC performers in particular.
"The drama, music and dance students could not rehearse or perform in front of live audiences, which is an important part of their HSC preparation," Ms Stuart explained.
"The drama students' group performance was cancelled from the program so marks were completely dependent on individual pieces and written work. But the class stayed focused and produced some amazing work."
Rounding out the honours list was visual arts student Sierra Cummins whose stunning watercolour paintings of a bushfire-affected landscape earned her a nomination for ArtExpress.
