Port Macquarie-Hastings Council staged three pop-up sessions on the Town Green and a survey is continuing to gauge people's opinions about what elements they would like to see in an improved Town Green playground.
Construction is scheduled to begin in mid-2021 and expected for completion by October 2021.
A mother-of-two told the Port News she would like the playground to have more swing sets and shaded areas, as well as separate play areas for toddlers and older children.
"I find it hard for a mum with kids of different ages to go to a park that caters for them both," she said.

Council's group manager community Lucilla Marshall said there was some really good feedback across all the pop-up sessions.
Some of the key ideas included imaginative play and making the fig tree the hero of the play space moving forward.
Locals and visitors provided their thoughts.
Ms Marshall said people were keen to have a water play component but the archaeological pressures of the site ruled that out.
"But that's not to say we aren't looking for opportunity to build water play along that foreshore area," she said.
The playground revamp will mark the second stage in the Town Green west upgrade project.
The soon to be completed stage one upgrade work delivers a new five metre-wide foreshore promenade shared path extension from Lady Nelson Wharf to Short Street, upgraded foreshore rock revetment wall, new LED lights, seats, bins, table settings and drinking fountain, new turf and irrigation.
Submissions to the playground survey close on December 11.
