The upgrade follows works on Town Green east in 2017 which created new shared pathways, established landscaping, improved lighting and installed street furniture along the foreshore from Lady Nelson Wharf to the breakwall.
The new upgrade to Town Green west will extend the community space providing a significant place for the community and visitors to the region to enjoy .
Works include the provision of a new five metre wide foreshore promenade shared path extension from Lady Nelson Wharf to Short St; upgrading of the foreshore rock revetment wall; new LED lighting; feature pavement nodes; new seating, bins, table settings and& drinking fountain; and installation of new turf and irrigation.
The project commenced in August and aims to improve access and connectivity throughout the foreshore reserve; consider Aboriginal and European heritage; provide a high-quality play space; and improve reserve facilities.
The works align with council's Recreation Action Plan 2017-2025, Coastal Walk Master Plan and the Town Centre Master Plan 2013.
In addition to the foreshore reserve works, an upgrade to the Town Green playground is planned to complete this stage of the Town Centre Master Plan.
Construction of the playground is scheduled to commence in 2021.
This is a $2 million project with $500,000 provided by the Town Centre Master Plan Committee, through contributions levied on commercial property owners within the Port Macquarie CBD, and $1.5 million from the Australian Government through a Community Development Grant.
