Port City Breakers can attest to that after registering three wins from as many starts in the 2020 North Coast open women's tackle competition.
The latest was a 60-6 belting of Port Macquarie on Saturday at Wauchope, but before that they put the cleaners through Lower Macleay 44-14 and Kendall 36-14.
Captain Simone Smith said she originally had to "scrounge" around for players a few months ago just so the club could field a team.
"It's always hard scrounging around trying to find girls to play tackle footy because it's not the first sport that most girls put their hand up to do," she said.
But the former Jillaroo shouldn't have worried as squad numbers soared past 30.
She said the team had a strong mix of personalities with the majority of her teammates revisiting their school playground days.
"Some of our girls in the team have had troubled backgrounds and gone off the rails a bit over the years," Smith said.
"But footy is a gateway that's given them a place to come and train and get their minds healthy.
"The girls are loving it; they're saying they're reaping the benefits and are saying their mental health has never been better."
The key was their ability to feel like they were contributing.
"They say they now have an outlet where they can let all their stress out as well as having a place where they can feel part of a team," Smith said.
"They're saying how much fun it is to play with a good group of girls that are so supportive of one another.
"They're really enjoying getting the wins, but it's a bit of a bonus because we came into it thinking we'll just have a bit of fun."
