Port Macquarie charged into the finals unbeaten on the first day of competition on October 30. They then faced off against one of two Penrith teams in the semi-final on October 31 and were defeated in extra-time.
"The game was nine all at full time and then we went on to a five-on-five player drop off in extra time. We ended with first set of six and then Penrith had the right to replay and then they scored for the game," Port Macquarie player Claire Thurlow said.
"It was very competitive, Penrith one and Penrith two went on to play other in the grand final. During our match we were quite evenly matched and so it was dead silent at the end of full time, we were all pretty disappointed.
"But we were absolutely thrilled on Friday (the first day) because we had won all our games and were just so excited to be with a real chance. We played extremely well and we just gelled together despite not having a lot of time to train together."
Port Macquarie was one of 140 teams competing at the competition from across NSW.
The team included Corina Latimore, Claire Thurlow, captain Natalie West, Jenna O'Brien, Raquel Lievore, Courtney Buckley, Grace Gentle, Shelley Lang, Luke O'Brien, Anthony Shipway, Gill Hopley, coach Brad Degeneras, Chris Young, Tim Moorehead, Scott Comber, Josh Mann and Emma Nowak.
"We just were so excited about sending a message to all the city teams that the country teams are here to play and we can make it with the best of them," Thurlow said.
"We're doing the best we can with what we have here and we're trying to build the competition here so we can get to a position where we can play other representative teams in our training lead up.
"It (semi-final) was a real affirmation that all of our hard work and all of the preparation we were doing was obviously on the right track."
