Student Lucas Blair approached the student leadership team and asked them to support this cause.
Lucas shared his journey with dyslexia with his friends and teachers to help others understand what life is like navigating some of those challenges.
The Community Connections Leadership Team were so impressed by his presentation that they chose to support this project and marked the day with all students wearing red.
Staff and students gained insight into the symptoms, experiences and support strategies available for those living with dyslexia.
Meanwhile, Tacking Point Lighthouse, Town Green and the Glasshouse will all go red this month joining buildings and monuments internationally to raise awareness about dyslexia.
The colour red represents the red pen which is often used to mark schoolwork. The event reclaims the colour to raise awareness.
It's a misconception that children with dyslexia learn to read differently. All children benefit from systematic synthetic phonics instruction in the early years but children with dyslexia will require more intensive instruction and repetition.
