The tender for completion of works on the Kenny Walk part of the staged Coastal Walk upgrade was awarded to Coffs Harbour City Council, trading as Coastal Works, for the lump sum of $244,760.
Works will include a new boardwalk, new steps and viewing platform, stabilisation of existing slips and upgraded seating areas.
Pedestrians will be able to access Nobbys Beach via Kenny Drive throughout construction. There will be no vehicle access during construction
The Coastal Walk is a 9.2km scenic walking trail that weaves its way along the coastline from Westport Park, through the Port Macquarie CBD to Tacking Point Lighthouse.
Council has allocated a total budget of $997,000 for upgrades to the Coastal Walk. Together with NSW government funding of $765,000 the total project budget is $1,762,000.
The Westport Park upgrade was completed in November 2018 and stage 1 of the Charlie Uptin to Flagstaff Hill upgrade in December 2019.
The next stage scheduled for works is the Charlie Uptin Walk to Flagstaff Hill (stage 2) and Doctor's Walk. This will be followed by upgrades to the Kenny Walk section.
Charlie Uptin Walk to Flagstaff Hill (Stage 2) will include:
- New boardwalk section leading to the Flagstaff bridge; and
- Replacement of the existing footpath with a wider concrete path.
Key upgrades to the Doctor's Walk section will include:
- Path widening and new handrails in sections;
- Improved signage;
- Drinking fountain; and
- New section of boardwalk at the southern end of Oxley Beach.
