RDA secretary and coach Sue Tubb said the funding would ensure safety for older volunteers and riders.
"A lot of our volunteers are in their 60s and over. We also have riders over the age of 60 and we felt that should we have the situation arise we may need one (defibrillator)," Mrs Tubb said.
"Hopefully we won't have to use it but the closest one on hand is at the Men's Shed which is across the other side of showground.
"It's a bit of a safety thing and makes sense because as coaches we have to do our first aid courses each year, which includes use of defibrillators."
RDA has a total of seven horses, around 29 riders and 40 volunteers although riding services are currently closed due to the coronavirus social-distancing guidelines.
It will re-open when guidelines are lifted and RDA NSW gives the all clear, according to Mrs Tubb.
"We try and base our classes around occupational therapy such as hand strength, eye-hand coordination and that sort of thing to extend their skills," Mrs Tubb.
"It is very beneficial but it's also beneficial for the volunteers because they can see the satisfaction of what they are doing. These grants are really beneficial because they enable us to buy essential items."
