The teenager overcame a few hiccups along the way as he won round one and two of the Australian Offroad Championships in the J3 division of the 125 or 250cc class.
Dad, Daniel, said while the weekend didn't go to plan it was his son's mental toughness that came to the forefront.
"On Saturday morning we struggled a bit to maintain everything," he said.
"He was overshooting corners and wasn't feeling the rhythm so had a bit of ground to make up.
"In the second sprint on Sunday morning he hit something out in the bush and snapped a gear stick shaft so he was stuck in second gear for that lap."
As a result Hargy had to return to the pits for some running repairs before he then blitzed the field on his return to the course.
"He had a blistering lap on the 250 that he went out on and then the next lap he went over the handlebars," Mr Hargy said.
Hargy is the current J2 Australian Offroad champion in the 85CC class, but he has welcomed the step up in class to 125 this season.
"He could have stayed in the younger class but due to his size he got too big for the bike," Mr Hargy said.
"It's more of a challenge, there is a bit more horsepower and weight and it's a bigger bike in general."
Mr Hargy said a full-time motocross career is still high on the agenda for his highly-driven youngster.
"He's got a lot of self-drive; he gets out of bed two mornings a week and swims laps and in two years' time when he goes to the under-19s he's hoping to make a career of it," he said.
"It's every kids dream to want to do it and it takes hard work, determination and a lot of help from mum and dad and his sponsors to make it all happen.
"But he lives and breathes it; if it's got two wheels, he's having fun."
Round three and four of the championship will take place at Dungog on March 14 and 15.
