Luke Anderson was named as Citizen of the Year at the 2020 Port Macquarie-Hastings Australia Day Awards ceremony on Sunday, January 26.
Kenny Little was named as Senior Citizen of the Year, Dianne Davison as Environmental Citizen of the Year and Brittany Daly as Young Citizen of the Year.
The Wauchope Rotary Club took out the Community Group of the Year award.
Luke Anderson said he felt very honoured after receiving the Citizen of the Year award.
Luke was recognised for the work he's done in the community to support people who have mental health issues.
Lifeline Mid North Coast appointed Luke as their Youth Ambassador in 2016.
He has become a familiar face in schools, where he shares insight on road safety skills and suicide prevention.
Luke shares his own life challenges with the students. When he was 19-years-old he lost his mum to suicide. Years later Luke nearly lost his own life in a motorcycle crash.
Luke said walking out of hospital alive was a crossroad moment. He realised his purpose in life is to help others.
It's Luke's goal to start a youth mentor program to further support others in need.
Kenny Little was named as Senior Citizen of the Year due to his ongoing effort to put others before himself.
Kenny thanked his friends, family and colleagues for their support in receiving the award.
The nomination outlined Ken constantly supports local sporting and community fundraiser efforts.
Ken has been awarded life memberships to rugby league, cricket and hockey clubs and the hockey association.
He has also been a volunteer hockey and cricket coach, a lifeguard, a sports administrator and president of the Men's Hockey Association.
At 27-years-old Brittany Daly was named as Young Citizen of the Year after being recognised for her volunteer role in the NSW Rural Fire Service.
In her nomination, Brittany was described as a passionate, hard working and inspiring young woman.
In receiving her award, Brittany thanked all the people who helped in fighting the recent fires, both on the frontline and behind the scenes.
Video of the dancing queen from the Sancrox/Thrumster Rural Fire Brigade went viral, notching up over thousands of views on social media.
Brittany said she loves to put a smile on people's faces.
Dianne Davison was named as Environmental Citizen of the Year for her involvement with Friends of Mrs York's Garden (FMYG) and her passionate commitment to the conservation of habitat and wildlife.
Due to Di's unwavering passion and enthusiasm, Mrs York's Garden has been transformed from a severely degraded weed infested area, into a littoral rainforest corridor.
The Community Group of the Year Award went to the Wauchope Rotary Club after its 26 members notched up a massive 674 hours of service.
Past president Reg Pierce, through Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS), administered the distribution of over $1.8 million to farmers in drought declared areas.
In partnership with Real Dairy Australia, Wauchope Rotary also established the 'Hay for Farmers' program.
Wauchope Rotary is known for its energetic support of other community events, programs and groups through volunteer work or donations.
