So it made sense she might end up a children's librarian.
Miss Evans studied primary school teaching at university but found as a career it just wasn't the right fit.
"Whenever I had a casual teaching day and I got to take my kids to the library I got really excited," she said.
"I really, really enjoy working with kids and I really, really love libraries so I decided to do a TAFE course in Wollongong to be library technician."
It proved the perfect career change.
Her first job was at Ryde library in Sydney in the children's section.
It didn't surprise her the books that would fly off the shelves.
They were the same books she loved reading as a child, Roald Dahl's Matilda and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
"They are timeless those books," she said.
"They are based around people, character, feelings, those things never change."
Last month Miss Evans was appointed the new children's librarian at Port Macquarie Library.
When she arrived at the library she was impressed with the resources.
"I am just amazed by the Imaginarium and the virtual reality room," she said.
"Those types of resources would be unthinkable in a Sydney library."
She has loved her first month in the role including being part of the mobile children's library at Rollands Plains, Telegraph Point and Comboyne.
And Miss Evans has no regrets about leaving Sydney.
"I grew up visiting Port Macquarie because my great aunt lives here and my sister recently moved there," she said.
"I'm glad to get out, Port Macquarie is a very beautiful place."
