Mexican restaurant chain Zambrero has doubled its year-round initiative which sees it donate one meal to someone in need, either in Australia or internationally.

Already over 34 million meals have been distributed either through Foodbank or Rise Against Hunger.

The Port Macquarie store has contributed about 90,000 to the cause.

Franchise partners Fadi Barsoum, Dan McAuliffe and Tamicka Suidgeest say they support the initiative.

"We've only been open since July last year while the Plate 4 Plate initiative has been ongoing since around 2011," Mr Barsoum said.

"As part of World Food Day, there will be meal packing events happening in metropolitan areas. Those meal packs will then be distributed to those in need.

"Internationally, food packs are sent to schools and orphanages and we have also been involved in natural disaster relief.

"In Australia, one in six children go to bed each night hungry - that's why we have partnered with Foodbank (in Australia) to reach those kids," he said.

Zambrero was founded in Canberra in 2005 by Dr Sam Prince who was a 21-year-old medical student at the time.

The franchise says it is a humanitarian enterprise committed to tackling world hunger through the Plate 4 Plate initiative.

"Sam Prince is very passionate about ending world hunger," Mr Barsoum said.

"He has a target of donating one billion meals by 2025, which is a very ambitious target for the franchise.

"However, on World Food Day, we are likely to pack something around 450,000 meals.

"Half the reason I joined the brand was this idea about helping solve world hunger," he said.

"It's a cause close to my heart and the reason I got involved with this brand."
