Pin Up fashion and rock and roll dancing are being reinvigorated in the 21st century, according to Janet Leeder, better known as Miss Violet.
"I think there are a lot of people interested in that era of the 40s, 50s and early 60s," she said.
"There are a lot of younger people, especially girls, who go in the Pin Up parades because it has a very different feel to it to modern fashion.
"There is a different style of dressing which is very feminine and elegant. Something a lot of younger girls enjoy.
"I was involved in the rock and roll club and came along to my first Retrofest for the fun of it all."
This year's Rockin' Retrofest kicks off its heels with a dance party at Port Panthers auditorium from 6.30pm to 11.30pm on Friday, August 30.
It will be followed by stalls, music, parades and competitions from 11.30am on Saturday, August 31.
"The music, the dancing, clothes and accessories are there," said Miss Violet.
"You can watch the fashion parade, competitions and it's a wonderful atmosphere. It's just a really good weekend."
Miss Violet is one of 12 finalists and two wildcards taking part in the Miss Retrofest competition for over 18s. Outfits are inspired from the 1940s, 50s and early 60s fashion.
There is also a Miss Dolly competition for Pin Ups age 10 to 17 including local hopeful, Miss Annie Roundhouse.
Fashionable competitors are vying for the three titles of Miss Retrofest, Miss Sapphire and Miss Pearl.
"There's probably some nostalgia of how things used to be in that time. People think that things were better than now or easier or more fun," said Miss Violet.
"I think it gives girls a chance to have fun, hunt for accessories and it's a good lifetime hobby really.
"My strongest memory is going to the movies with my brother to see Rock Around the Clock. All the teenagers were so excited they were dancing up the aisles completely overwhelmed with the music.
"I've always been interested different types of music since then and the different types of fashion."
Miss Dale Velvet-Rose will host a fashion parade with her modelling troupe at 10am on Saturday. Sydney Swing Katz will showcase their swing dancing from 1.45pm.
Saturday's festivities will conclude with a Glamour Rock and Roll Ball from 6.30pm to 11.30pm.
Stalls and dancing will continue featuring Old 45s Band and DJ Dale from 9am to 3.30pm on Sunday, September 1.
"I think people will be surprised about how much fun they can have," said Miss Violet.
