Scaysbrook is eight shots behind leader Makensie Toole after she shot a round of 77 on a blustery, challenging day at Port Macquarie Golf Club.
"It was really tough," Scaysbrook said.
"Your game changes (when it's windy) because you have to hit it low and it's hard to hit low because the wind takes the ball up higher.
"It's hard to control your ball."
Scaysbrook said she needed to "hit more greens" on day two and while Toole appeared to be out of sight, she hadn't given up hope.
"It will be pretty hard to pin that down, but we'll give it a go," she said.
Last year's winner Brigette Griffin and Grace Williams are tied for second with the Port Macquarie hopeful.
