The streets were filled to the brim as crowds came to commemorate current or past service members from Australia and New Zealand, at the Port Macquarie War Memorial on Thursday April 25.
The gathering was hosted by the RSL Port Macquarie sub-Branch with president Greg Laird OAM commencing the dawn service with an ANZAC dedication.
Sub-branch padre Carl Moses led the prayer of thanksgiving, prayer for the Queen, commemorative of the fallen and benediction.
A standout for this year's commemoration was an inspiring speech given by Hastings Secondary College Westport Campus's Cameron Halmi.
"Ninety-six years of Dawn services; and we continue to gather to honour, not only the original Anzacs ... but all Australians who have served and died, not only in combat but in peace-keeping, disaster relief and in humanitarian assistance missions," he said.
"I express my thanks to you the servicemen, the service women and all who have supported Australia in the pursuit of peace, on behalf of my fellow students of the Port Macquarie for taking the time to remember, not only those who have served but those who currently serve their nation on operations.
"As we remember him and others, and honour them for their courage and sacrifice. Please, today and every day, reflect on the sacrifices that many have made in the defence of our national values.
"May you enjoy your freedom and may Australia stand strong in the defence of world peace."
Army Corporal Jason Gill led the prayer for the nation and serving members during the dawn service, while Keanu Bowman guided crowds in singing the New Zealand and Australian national anthems.
