"I knew it was going to be a mountain to climb to win the seat," said Cr Alley.
"I was hoping to make some inroads; at this stage, I haven't but quite a number of booths are still to report and we will see with the final results if Labor has moved forwards or backward in this particular seat.
"We have not had the resources in this seat to pour at this campaign, and obviously Leslie being an incumbent helps in terms of her profile within the electorate. We need to hold Leslie to account for the various promises she has made and we will do that."
As to his own future, Peter Alley said he would have a big, long think about it.
"I'm a member of council and as long as the community wants me to remain in that position, I will do so," he said.
Cr Alley said there was a lot of concern about the way the Federal government is operating and he thinks the people of Australia will have a strong message when they go to the polls in May. He thanked everyone who helped his campaign, especially his wife, Elke Knebel and their son, Lucas.
"They tolerate my passion to represent Labor in this area, and all the workers who've worked so hard on pre-poll, in polling booths, and in the background, preparing and planning for this. They've done a fantastic job," he added.
