So the Community Hair Project has paired up with headspace Port Macquarie and the Mid North Coast Community College to host a delightful pampering experience for young people during Youth Week 2019.
Hosted at Mid North Coast Community College's Trendz on April 16, the trio of services will provide mental health downtime, head massages, healthy food and free hair cuts to those young people who might otherwise go without.
"We have now come to Port Macquarie twice for the Community Hair Project and each time we have been overwhelmed at how much love and joy is in the place as volunteers and those doing it tough come together," Ms Mastello said.
"Everyone volunteers their time and when someone sits down for a hair cut it is just as if they are doing it in a salon.
"After our first trip out here we really wanted to come up with a way to help others in the community and then we thought holding an event for young people in Youth Week would be a great idea.
"Very quickly headspace and the Mid North Coast Community College jumped on board and now we are all just so excited."
"Youth Week is always a focus for us as young people and mental health is what we do and so we saw this as a perfect collaboration for the youth of Port Macquarie," Ms Jamieson said.
"We will be having a mini Green Space and we will be hosting a chill out space along with fun activities and healthy green foods for people.
"For us we will be talking about self care and the importance taking a step back and taking care of yourself."
"We are really passionate about helping disadvantaged youth get the skills needed to help get back on track and partnering with the Community Hair Project and headspace is great," Ms English said.
"On the day we will also be letting people know about the programs they can take with us at the community college."
All hair cut on the day will be donated to Sustainable Salons who are working towards a zero waste industry.
If you are a young person and would like to book in for a free hair cut on April 16 ring 0432 580 059.
