Part of Got Ya Back Productions, 23 young, local actors have been rehearsing over the Christmas holidays and lead actors Lyla Jamieson, Charlotte Schrader and Xavier Dancet say they are excited to be performing later this week.
“I have a big passion for musical theatre, singing and dancing but this is the first time I have done something like this,” Xavier said.
“After watching lots of local shows I decided I wanted to give it ago and the next thing I knew I was Prince Eric.
“We have been in rehearsals since the end of November but since New Years it has been getting more intense as our performances aren’t far away now.”
The show will be at the Glasshouse from January 10 – 12 with a 3pm and 6pm show each day. The entire cast are aged between 12 and 17 years.
“Being in the Little Mermaid Jr I have learnt a lot and made a heap of new friends,” Charlotte said.
“I love singing and acting and when I am around these guys I feel like I am in my element. Being part of something like this is a great way to express yourself.”
During the show, the cast will take audience members on a magical journey ‘under the sea’ adapted from Disney's Broadway production and the motion picture.
Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen's most beloved stories, Disney's The Little Mermaid Jr is an enchanting look at the sacrifices we all make for love and acceptance.
“I am so happy to be in this show. I sing and dance around all the time and to be able to be around great people is wonderful,” Lyla said.
“The show is so much fun and we all hope that people come along have fun and enjoy themselves.”
Tim Maddren from Got Ya Back Productions said he and co-director Steph Maddren were incredibly proud of the group.
“The show is perfect for Port Macquarie in summer and we are just so proud of all the hard work and effort every cast member has put in over the last few months,” Mr Maddren said.
“They are a great group of kids and it has been a real joy putting the show together."
Tickets to the show can be purchased at the Glasshouse or via their website.
