In a recent Sydney Morning Herald article (27th November 2018 page 14) it was stated ‘the price of unleaded petrol has now dropped for 38 consecutive days in Sydney.’ Well that certainly has not occurred in our town.
In fact, price has barely moved over the past several months, except upwards. Interestingly, there is a price difference of 21 cents for unleaded fuel between the two petrol stations in Gordon Street which are located half a kilometre apart. Go figure?
That extra distance down the hill surely merits the additional cost. Of course, the politicians don’t care and won’t do anything about it because both State and Federal Governments get extra tax from the higher prices. Then the petrol companies, well it is just ‘extra’ pure profit for them.
As an aside, as of 27th November, the majority of petrol stations in the Laurieton/Kew area all have petrol prices down at least 16 cents lower than the majority of those in Port Macquarie.
The only way for Port Macquarie residents to force a more reasonable price is to boycott the local stations and take a short and leisurely drive south to fill up.
The cost savings for a full tank of fuel far outweighs the extra distance to buy the petrol.
