Kam Baker from the local RFS unit has cautioned residents to stay alert and be prepared.
“The NSW Rural Fire Service has issued a very high fire danger rating for the region and other parts of the state today as well as a Total Fire Ban in some places,” Mr Baker said.
“In some places they have also suspended fire permits which will last until the initial danger is over.
“We are asking people in the Port Macquarie-Hastings region to review their bushfire action plan and be prepared to leave if conditions change.”
In a Total Fire Ban no fire may be lit in the open and all fire permits are suspended.
This includes incinerators and barbecues which burn solid fuel and no general purpose welding, grinding, soldering or gas cutting can be done in the open.
Port Macquarie Fire Station also cautioned people to remain aware of changing weather conditions.
“We are concerned with the heat in the coming days but crews are being prepared to be able to respond at a moments notice,” station commander Derek Alford said.
“We are just asking people to be mindful of their actions and be aware of the local conditions.”
