She partnered with the Rotary Club of Port Macquarie West to sell soft toy sheep at the Port Macquarie Foreshore Markets and at the Camden Haven Show at Kendall on October 13-14.
“It was really unexpected how much money we were able to raise in just two days and I was blown away by just how supportive of my idea the community has been,” Jenni said.
“In the end, selling at the foreshore markets in Port Macquarie and at both days of the Camden Haven show I was able to raise $3000 for the farmers who are doing it tough at the moment.”
Jenni was inspired during the Luminosity Youth Summit to do her bit for drought-affected farming families.
“I just thought the farmers are doing it so tough without rain and no one should have to lose everything just because of the weather,” she said.
“But on a lighter note our farmers provide a lot of our food and I don’t think anyone wants to go hungry so I think it is important that we help them when we can.”
The 17-year-old’s goal is to raise $20,000 through the sale of stuffed toy sheep and other fundraising projects to buy vouchers to assist farming families in the Gunnedah area over the Christmas season.
“We are now on the way to reach my goal of $20,000 but there is still a long way to go.
“The Rotary Club of Port Macquarie West have been really great about the project and have really helped get it off the ground and I am just so thankful to them.
“At this stage I have a few more ideas in the pipeline and I really want to see if I can get other schools on board and do a fundraising project for the farmers before the end of the year.”
