The Hastings Cancer Trust for many years has translated the community's generosity into much-needed funding for projects supporting cancer patients and clinicians in the area.
Funding is distributed through the annual grants program.
Hastings Cancer Trust fundraising coordinator Steve Thomas said all projects great or small were assessed on their merit and benefit to the community.
Trustees administer all the funds received.
The money stays in the area.
Donations and fundraising have allowed the trust to grant almost $1 million since 2005 through its annual grants program, providing supplementary funding for projects and needs beyond the scope on ongoing government funding for cancer services.
The 2017 funding round recipients included Port Macquarie-Hastings Breast Cancer Support Group, Rotary Lodge, Macleay Valley Home Hospice and Port Macquarie Base Hospital Anaesthetics Department.
The grant to Rotary Lodge went towards new sofas.
Rotary Lodge Board chairman Phil Hafey said Rotary Lodge would not have been able to provide the new sofas without the Hastings Cancer Trust’s assistance.
“All the funds raised [by the Hastings Cancer Trust] stay in the area which is a plus as far as we are concerned,” he said.
Rotary Lodge will submit an application to the 2018 funding round.
Grant applications can be submitted by, or on behalf of, anyone involved in the management of cancer or community organisations which support cancer patients, cancer survivors and their carers in the Hastings, Camden Haven and Macleay.
The 2018 Winter Glimmer Ball raised about $50,000 for the Hastings Cancer Trust.
Fundraisers from barbecues to craft days and a fashion show have buoyed the fundraising kitty, along with support from organisations and business groups from the area.
More information about the 2018 grant application process is available at the Hastings Cancer Trust website.
Submissions close at 5pm on October 5.
