The June 23 Hastings Cancer Trust’s Winter Glimmer Ball at Sails Port Macquarie by Rydges attracted 250 people.
They enjoyed a night of fine dining, entertainment and fundraising.
Hastings Cancer Trust fundraising coordinator Steve Thomas said everyone glammed up for the occasion.
The BluHyp Big Band had people dancing from the first song and magician Magic Jake entertained the crowd.
The emcee was Pete Murray, while Ron Fischer was the auctioneer for the night.
Hastings Cancer Trust chair Dr Stephen Begbie spoke about the work of the trust.
The ball was the 2018 major fundraiser for the Hastings Cancer Trust, a non-profit organisation formed in 2005 to enhance the quality of cancer care in the region.
Dr Begbie said thanks went to Sails Port Macquarie by Rydges and the major sponsors.
He said the trustees were really happy with the Friends of the Hastings Cancer Trust’s organisation of the ball.
“There has been a reinvigoration over the last year with a range of new people, new ideas and new energy,” Dr Begbie said.
“It has just been a really effective fundraiser as a result.”
The Winter Glimmer Ball was the first ball staged at Sails Port Macquarie by Rydges Cape Ballroom.
Sails Port Macquarie by Rydges and Rydges Port Macquarie area director of sales and marketing Kate Wood-Foye said they were really excited to partner with the Hastings Cancer Trust for the ball.
Donations and fundraising have allowed the trust to grant almost $1 million since 2005 through its annual grants program, providing supplementary funding for projects and needs beyond the scope on ongoing government funding for cancer services.
All money raised stays in the area.
The trust will call for grant applications in August for its next funding round.
Dr Begbie said the money raised at the ball would go towards the 2018 grant round.
The grants benefit Hastings Macleay cancer patients and carers.
He said everyone interested in cancer services in the region should keep a look out for the call for applications.
Meanwhile, there are opportunities for people who would like to contribute to fundraising to join the Friends of Hastings Cancer Trust team.
