Tacking Point Lions Club are calling for expressions of interest and nominations for the 2018 Lions Youth of the Year Quest which will take place later this year.
Aimed at year 10,11 and 12 students in Port Macquarie, the competition is a chance for young people to put themselves out there boosting their skills under the guidance of the local Lions Club.
Chair of the Tacking Point Lions Youth of the Year Quest, Mal Murray said he is encouraging young people to give the quest a go.
“I strongly believe that this competition is a fantastic opportunity for young people to develop or strengthen their public speaking skills as well as giving back to the community and reflecting on what they want to do in the future,” Mr Murray said.
“The competition is strongly backed by NAB and has been going for more than 30 years with candidates being able to progress from a club level to a state and national level if they win, with prizes at each stage for the winners.”
He said over the years it has been extraordinary to see the growth in the young people who take up the quest challenge.

“The young people who take up the challenge grow immensely and it is wonderful to see the changes they go through during the different stages,” he said.
“Last year we had an extremely strong field and it was a credit to all the schools who had students participating.
“Hopefully we get a number of nominations as it really is a great program for high school students to take part in.”
