Forget flossing the latest dance craze to go viral is The Git Up Challenge and not even medical professionals are immune. Mersey Community Hospital medicos have been rehearsing their best hoedown moves in the hospital's ambulance bay after accepting the social media challenge. MCH emergency department nurse practitioner Leahanna Stevens is co-ordinating the dance crew as a team building activity which could be used in future recruitment strategies. "It's the dance inspired by Blanco Brown's song The Git Up that has gone viral on social media and it has turned into a bit of a workplace challenge that's gone international," Mrs Stevens said. "A couple of us at work noticed the dance craze was happening in other emergency departments in Queensland and Western Australia and we took on the challenge. "We thought it would be a good workplace team building exercise as well as for recruiting nurses and doctors who might think about coming here because it looks like a fun place to work." Country-hip hop artist Blanco Brown posted a tutorial of the dance to YouTube, which has clocked millions of views from people performing it in parks, police departments, fire stations and at home. The eight-step Git Up Challenge has made line-dancing popular and it's fun. "I think it boosts morale - we've had a load of fun with it," Mrs Stevens said. "We've had a lot of practice runs which has drawn people in who might not get involved. "We want to put Tassie on the map a little bit more because we do have some real issues here with the permanency of our nursing staff and our doctors. "We wanted to promote this place as a good place to come to work and live here. "It has been really good for letting off some steam in the ED where it's kind of a case that if you don't laugh you cry - we do all try and have a laugh because it's a hard job." Mrs Stevens moved her family here from the Gold Coast four years ago. "It was a great lifestyle change for a young family," she said.
