That was part of the reason why this week the inaugural Young Participants' Forum was held in Sydney, the first of its kind in our industry.
We are constantly hearing that our engagement with the 18 to 35 year old demographic is significant, so our team wanted to bring together men and women in that age group and hear their thoughts on our industry, to give us feedback on what they believe we are doing well along with what areas we can improve on, and how they see the future of the industry in NSW.
It was an opportunity for young people from our industry, and this includes owners, trainers, officials and other stakeholders, to bring along their ideas, suggestions for innovation, and feedback on how we are performing. We will now take that information on board and look at what can be implemented or worked on within the industry.
It was an extremely successful day and we are planning on making the Young Participants' Forum an annual event.
Outback racing
I want to wish good luck to club president Regan Edgecumbe and his team with their first TAB and Sky Racing meeting, with the heats of the Broken Hill Cup on Sunday April 3.
Their club has worked extremely hard for this and deserve a successful carnival.
Our thanks as an industry also go out to Sportsbet who have come onboard, not only sponsoring the Richest Outback Maiden, but also contributing to the club and donating $1000 to Greyhounds As Pets each time a dog wearing the Sportsbet number 4 rug wins a race across the two-day carnival.
The final of the Broken Hill Cup will be held on April 10 and again will have TAB and Sky coverage, and for the winner of the Broken Hill Cup, not only a $10,000 cheque, but a ticket straight into the Million Dollar Chase semi-finals.
The Thunderbolt
On the back of an incredibly successful night at Dubbo for the inaugural Stockman & Paddock Country Classic, GRNSW has announced The Thunderbolt, the world's richest short-course sprint.
The Thunderbolt series will see heat races staged around the state before heading to the new track at Grafton for semi-finals on June 11, and then the grand final on June 19.
Chase gets underway
The TAB Million Dollar Chase which was postponed from 2021 due to Covid-19, is underway, having kicked off with heats on Thursday March 31. The series will wind its way around the state over the next month, culminating in the $1 million-to-the-winner Grand Final on May 7.
Good luck to everyone contesting the series which in its short history has now become iconic in the sport.
