And her love of the game was a key factor in agreeing to take on a role as the Walking Basketball coach for Port Macquarie Basketball Association.
She says the program is a way for those who have pulled the pin on their careers to still have a way to get the competitive juices flowing.
"That's what Walking Basketball is all about," she said.
"It's probably not gentle exercise, but we do a lot of exercise and you keep moving for the whole hour that the program runs.
"You can walk fast, you can walk slow, but you learn skills as well. There's been a few people who have never touched a basketball before but they keep coming back and keep enjoying it."
Each Walking Basketball session starts with a warm-up and basketball fundamentals followed by a game.
Basketball NSW started the program back in March before Adams was approached by fellow life member Deb Burghardt to run it in Port Macquarie.
"I've done so much in basketball and didn't stop until about five or six years ago when I was playing masters before my knee got the better of me and I've now got a new knee," she said.
"It's a way to give back to basketball. As a family we've lived and breathed basketball for a long, long while in the Adams Family you might say."
Along with husband Paul, the Adams' family also played an important role in the building of the Port Macquarie Indoor Stadium shortly after they moved to the Hastings from Broken Hill.
"When I came to Port Macquarie they were playing basketball on the outside courts and there was a carpark where the stadium is now," she recalled.
"Every time it rained, basketball was washed out so my husband and I were instigators to get the new stadium going.
"Along with our committee, we got the first three courts up and running and then I've been secretary, my husband was president for a long while and we are both life members."
The 2022 sessions will start up again in February. For more information email Deb Burghardt at d.burghardt@portmacquariebasketball.com.au.
