The grass roots charity organisation Make a Difference Port Macquarie has recently received a $33,000 grant from the Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation to help them reach their goal of supporting the more vulnerable members of the community.
With recent funding from the Foundation for Rural Regional Renewal, local clubs involved with the NSW Clubs Grant Program and the Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation, the food trailer has been purchased and will accompany the Make a Difference coffee van.
Make a Difference founder Erin Denham said the trailer is currently in production, with plans for it to be operational in February.
"The trailer will allow us to have more shifts out in the community and it will travel from Taree to Kempsey to help the homeless," she said.
"It will provide a free mobile food service and will mean that we're able to reach more people."
Food will also be able to be cooked and served on shift with the benefit of mobility.
The trailer will also help the charity raise revenue at their major fundraising events.
"It means there will be one less meal the more vulnerable members of our community will have to worry about," Ms Denham said.
Seven out of the 12 regional NSW charities to benefit from the Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation will directly impact communities and groups in the Mid North Coast region.
Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation Chair Jennifer Leslie said the projects were chosen on the impact they would have on defined areas of community need in regional NSW.
"The 12 grants will enable projects that directly address disadvantage, marginalisation or isolation to help at-risk youth and vulnerable people in our local communities become more resilient and better connected," she said.
"Each project that received funding has been recognised by the Charitable Foundation because we know it will make a difference. I've seen first-hand the long-lasting impact our grants have in delivering projects and outcomes that help create opportunities for those in need to thrive. These projects will help to rewrite the future for many."
The seven projects that will benefit communities throughout the Mid-North Coast from this funding round are:
- Little Wings Limited - Medical Wings 2.0 - $60,000
- Missing School Incorporated - See-Be the Robot Service for Sick Kids - $50,000
- KIDS Foundation - SeeMore eSafety - $90,000
- Make a Difference PMQ Incorporated - M.A.D Food Trailer - $33,000
- Karitane - Taree District Volunteer Family Connect - $112,000
- Country Education Foundation of Australia Ltd - NPCF - CEF Flood Support Scholarships NPCF - $33,000
- Rural and Remote Medical Services Limited - dental and medical services to disadvantaged rural and regional communities using technology - $120,000
"The grant has taken an incredible amount of financial pressure off our charity. Without it, we wouldn't be able to deliver this project for at least another 12 months," Ms Denham said.
"By providing a free, fresh, nutritious and easily accessible food service to those most in need, Make a Difference can ultimately improve the diet, mental and physical health of those most in need."
