Member for Port Macquarie, Leslie Williams has asked the Minister for Transport to urgently review the request for the appointment of a school crossing supervisor.
The Lake Cathie-Bonny Hills area is a fast growing community with hundreds of residential blocks ready for development, Mrs Williams said.
"In the past two years there has been a significant increase in housing which has resulted in heightened traffic movements both on Ocean Drive and in the local streets," she said.
"I was disappointed to learn that the recent request for a school crossing supervisor had been denied by Transport for NSW.
"I understand the need to have eligibility criteria but it is obvious to anyone visiting the area that those site requirements for a crossing supervisor will be exceeded in the short term.
"The safety of our school students must be our highest priority and I am concerned that the increasing traffic movements including many heavy vehicles in the area is a high risk for our young pedestrians."
Parents have expressed their concerns to Mrs Williams about road safety in the area.
Mrs Williams has written to Minister Rob Stokes requesting a review of the decision.
