The competition is open to anyone who can deliver their product to The Country Brewer or the Wicked Elf.
The grand prize will give a brewer the opportunity to showcase their winning beer on tap at the Wicked Elf.
Port Macquarie resident Samuel Peake began making his own beer at home as a cost saving exercise but it quickly grew into a passion.
"I enjoy home brewing as I like to have friends over (when not under COVID-19 restrictions) and let them enjoy the beers I make," he said.
"It's become a popular hobby for a lot of people due to easy access to quality ingredients, online resources and low cost entry equipment set ups."
Mr Peake said the local competition is the first one he's entered his beers into and is looking forward to receiving feedback from the judges.
"It will help improve my brewing process and recipe creation," he said.
Wicked Elf's head brewer Ryan Nilsson-Linne said the competition enables members of the craft brew community to connect, as well as put the Port Macquarie-Hastings on the map.
Mr Nilsson-Linne started working at the Wicked Elf in May, after working at breweries in Western Australia and running competitions for 15 years.
He's hoping to hand out some gold medals at the competition, which is the highest accolade to recognise a product's quality.
"It means it's at commercial level," he said.
"Fingers crossed we can see a few beers get up to that level."
The competition is open to any style of beer which brewers can create.
"If there's a clear stand out beer it doesn't matter what style it is," Mr Nilsson-Linne said.
Brewers can enter two different beers and are required to drop off their product in 330ml bottles to the Country Brewer by November 20 or Wicked Elf by November 27.
Mr Nilsson-Linne has invited staff members from the region's other local breweries to help him judge the competition.
An awards night is on December 11 at Wicked Elf, where the winners of the competition will be revealed.
