Yesterday police arrested a 35-year-old man in Valerie Street, Taree and later charged him with two counts of armed robbery.
Police say the charges relate to an incident at Wingham Sporties in Combined Street when, at about 8.15pm on Sunday, July 25, a 67-year-old male employee and a 43-year-old patron were approached by three men - allegedly armed with knives and a samurai sword.
Initial inquiries were conducted by Manning-Great Lakes Police, before detectives from the State Crime Command's Robbery and Serious Crime Squad took charge of the investigation under Strike Force Savery.
Police will allege in court the 35-year-old threatened a male patron with a weapon before fleeing the scene.
He was refused bail to appear at Forster Local Court today (Thursday, August 26).
Police say they would like to speak to two other men they believe may be able to assist them with their inquiries.
