Truth rarely emerges from personal attacks, and it is appalling that Dr Kathleen Matthews, NSW State President of the Australian Dental Association (Port News, 22 July) tries to win her point with personal insult.

Namely, for 70 years NHMRC has promoted fluoridation to the nation as unconditionally 'safe' for everyone, despite NEVER having funded even a single project to investigate potential adverse effects. The claims of fluoridation safety are indeed 'illusion'.
We assure the residents of Port Macquarie-Hastings that, based on the extensive evidence Fluoride Free Australia has examined over decades, Cr Intemann's statements are true.
Especially since 2002, NHMRC appears to be systematically ignoring the emerging global research indicating fluoridation harms to health, while also relying on very poor quality and selectively-biased dental evidence.
As long as ADA continues to ignore those facts, they are complicit in the consequences of what amounts to dangerous disinformation, purporting benefit from forcing councils to add a toxic industrial waste, hydrofluorosilicic acid, to public water supplies.
