The One Hundred Thousand Million recycling project dates back to May 2018 as the club recognised the opportunity to raise money through the NSW government's Return and Earn container deposit scheme.
Donors came on board as can and bottle collection points, the volunteers got to work and the rest is history.
Rotary Club of Port Macquarie West president Steven Towle said members were enthusiastic about the project which also met Rotary International's environmental goals by reducing waste.
"We set a four-year target [to reach the one million mark] and we have done it in just over three," he said.
More than $100,000 from the fundraiser has been invested into organisations and projects from Endeavour Mental Health Recovery Clubhouse to Sailability Port Macquarie, Soldier On, the Dementia Friendly Community Alliance and OzHarvest Port Macquarie.
Soldier On programs officer Jody Geosits welcomed Rotary's support of veterans and their families on the Mid-North Coast.
She said the funding contributed to programs from horse riding to bowling.
"Rotary goes above and beyond for not only Soldier On but our community here," Ms Geosits said.
Soldier On is a not-for-profit veteran support organisation with services which aim to assist individuals in building resilience and in creating and expanding meaningful connections with family, community and employers through its HELP program.
The NRMA Port Macquarie Breakwall Holiday Park has three bottle and can collection stations within the waterfront park, which support the Rotary Club of Port Macquarie West fundraiser.
Park manager Dawn Marchment said the collection points made it easy for guests to participate.
"The planet is better off and the community is better off - there are so many benefits," she said.
The One Hundred Thousand Million recycling project is ongoing.
