The Pfizer rollout to GP practices started this week with 18 clinics across the Healthy North Coast footprint taking delivery of their first batch of Pfizer vaccine doses.
More practices will come on board in coming weeks.
The first participating practices in our area with Pfizer supply are located at Port Macquarie, Kempsey, Crescent Head, Lakewood, South West Rocks, Wauchope and Macksville.
Healthy North Coast executive director, wellness Monika Wheeler said 35 local GPs and six Commonwealth vaccination clinics would start offering the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine from this month onwards.
"To start with, the supply will be quite limited for these clinics and we encourage the public to be patient," she said.
There will be a cumulative build-up of practices administering the Pfizer vaccine across the Healthy North Coast footprint from Tweed Heads to the Port Macquarie area.
Most GPs participating in the vaccination rollout can be found through the COVID-19 vaccine eligibility checker and clinic finder. People can also check their eligibility using the online tool.
The latest figures show more than 125,000 vaccine doses have been given across the Mid-North Coast and North Coast area since June 30.
More than 500 GPs around Australia have joined the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine rollout from this week which will help to accelerate the pace of the rollout for younger populations.
This is further supported by 62 Commonwealth vaccination clinics and 15 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community controlled health services which will also begin administering Pfizer from this week.
By the end of July, 1300 GPs will be administering Pfizer vaccines across Australia, along with up to 135 Commonwealth vaccination clinics and 130 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community controlled health services.
It is expected all 5100 GPs participating in the vaccine rollout will have the opportunity to administer the Pfizer vaccine by later this year as more Pfizer supplies become available.
GPs have been administering the AstraZeneca vaccine for some time.
The national rollout has been plagued by changing advice and limited supplies of the imported Pfizer vaccine.
Meanwhile, the Mid North Coast Local Health District is continuing vaccinations in line with the COVID-19 national vaccination program at its clinics at Port Macquarie Base Hospital and Coffs Harbour Health Campus.
It is vaccinating staff with second vaccine doses and eligible members of the public when appointments become available.
