Gender reveals have increasingly grown in popularity over the past few years.
People are now branching out from the usual coloured cakes and balloon popping announcements and instead are opting for more unique ways for expecting parents to find out, or announce, the sex of their unborn child.
For expecting first-time grandmother Sammy Brown, doing something different for her daughter's gender reveal was always going to be the case.
"I always do things in big doses and I like to do things a bit differently, so this was an opportunity to do that," she said.
Sammy thought of the idea to have her son, Lachie, announce the gender of his sister's child while jumping out of a plane.
"I sort of put him in the deep end. We were planning for him to go skydiving next year for his birthday, but decided it would be a great way for him to announce the gender of Mickaylah and Brandon's baby," Sammy said.
"He was pretty nervous because there was so much to remember. He had 25 metres of pink tulle and smoke grenades, but he really enjoyed it and wants to skydive again."
The whole plan was kept secret from expecting parents Mickaylah and Brandon, with a decoy balloon popping set up back at home.
"The skydiving reveal was out at the airport and Skydive Port Macquarie helped organise it as well. We had set up a balloon at home that Mickaylah and Brandon thought was going to be their gender reveal, they were both very surprised," Sammy said.
"They both cried when they realised Lachie was announcing the gender and they're both really excited to be having a girl."
The bundle of joy is due in late October or early November.
Sammy has five children and said she will need to think of even more interesting and unique ways to announce the gender of any other future grandchildren she might have.
"I think we've set the bar pretty high with the first one and I'll have to think of other interesting ways to announce the gender for the future," she said.
"Organising a surprise gender reveal and having it be a fun experience for everyone was important for me and it all came together really well."
