Born in Tamworth, Potts stayed in Port Macquarie with the Clontarf Foundation during his school days.
He has recently moved to the area for work and on Saturday the proud Gamilaroi man will run out wearing a specially designed jersey for the club's Indigenous round.
"I remember a couple of years ago I stayed with the Clontarf at the school here and the Vikings were playing and I remembered I wanted to give it a go here one day so I picked them," he said.
"I never thought I'd play in an Indigenous round. Going through school we had away trips with Clontarf and that was always good fun but then after that I thought I'd never be in another one."
The 20-year-old then noticed the club had marked on the 2021 calendar a clash against Southern Cross University Marlins on July 3 as their first-ever Indigenous round.
He was then chosen as the unofficial face of the club to help spread the word.
"It's going to have a big impact on my performance and how I play and it's going to make me feel like I'm appreciated and to have even more pride in who I am and my culture," he said.
"I want to make it count."
Before Potts made the move east along the Oxley Highway he was initiated into his culture in a moving ceremony.
"Moving away from home and all the Indigenous stuff I didn't know what to do here culture-wise and then the club offered this so it's going to have big impact on me," he said.
Saturday's first grade fixture kicks off at 3.15pm at Oxley Oval.
