One in three people will need blood during their lifetime and donors at the Port Macquarie Lifeblood Donor Centre are being praised for their contribution.
Lifeblood spokesperson Gilly Paxton said it's important to take the time and thank those who donate.
"Each week, Australia's blood donors collectively give 31,000 donations - that's the equivalent of a donation every 24 seconds in the time our blood donor centres are open," she said.
"This National Blood Donor Week, we want to say a huge thank you to all of our donors who made a difference and gave something back to not only their community - but communities all over Australia."
Local donor Neville Burley is one of those being thanked, having given 163 blood donations over the past 60 years.
"I was called up for National Service in 1958 and when I was in Ingleburn Army Camp, the mobile blood donation unit was there and called for volunteers, so I put my hand up," he said.
Neville has continued to donate blood and plasma over the past 63 years.
"It's saving lives and is very important for me to do," he said.
Lifeblood Port Macquarie is also taking the time this week to thank new donors who are rolling up their sleeves to give blood.
Ash Doig has given 21 blood donations and said she hopes to continue to help save lives.
"I first donated when I was 16, but have picked it up again in the last two years," she said.
"I wanted to give back in any way that I can. Giving blood is so important and is a simple way to help others.
"It would be nice to see more young people like myself stepping up and donating blood, it's such an easy thing to do."
