Port Macquarie West Rotary Club got off to a wonderful start on Saturday evening after a Charter night that was universally acclaimed by all present as "a beauty".
Without skimping chairman Ivan Meldrum performed "the impossible" when he had all official procedure through by 10.30pm.
Responsible for the dinner were the members of Port Macquarie RSL Auxiliary and the high standard attained was in keeping with the glamourous and spectacular setting which Rotarians and their Annes had created in the club auditorium.
Responding after the presentation of the Charter to Port Macquarie West, its president "Mac" Adams said it was worthy of note that the Port Macquarie Rotary Club, through its demonstration of Rotary ideals and principles, has enthused the business and professional men of this district to such an extent that it has sponsored two other clubs, Wauchope and Laurieton.
Show rejects Motorkhana
Proposal to stage a motorkhana on the Wauchope showground ring could destroy grass the Society had been nurturing for years, several members told Wauchope Show Society Committee on Friday.
With great reluctance Committee resolved not to approve an application by the Hastings Valley Sporting Car Club. Messrs S. Harris and A. Lindsay successfully sponsored a motion that the committee express its very regret to the car club at having to refuse its request but the grass which had been carefully nurtured for a long period must be preserved at all costs.
Fancy dress barbecue
An unusual and happy occasion was held for Anne Marshall when her friends arranged a fancy dress pre-wedding barbecue.
Anne is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Eric Marshall, and on Saturday afternoon next she will marry Mr Roger Quinn in the historic Church of St Thomas.
