After sitting between fifth and sixth in rounds three and four, the Magpies have moved into third after wins over Laurieton and the Tigers.
Travelling from Smithtown up the hill to Comboyne, Lower Macleay returned to the nest 42-38 victors with the home side finishing strong.
Jayson Corr and Beau Dorrington scored doubles for the Tigers.
"We went to sleep in the last twenty minutes, we had them by 22 points and then let them back in," Magpies coach Mike Davis said to the Argus.
"Other than that our attack [was great], our halves directed the boys around the park, everyone fitted in and did their job.
"David Davis at the back had another blinder and our forwards led the way - Lionel Lockwood, Reece Sines, Mitchell Dixon and Braydon Davis all put their hands up.
"Mitchell, Braydon, Reece and Lionel have been killing it all season and our backs are playing off them."
With the season now seven rounds in out of 18, Davis believes once his sides defence peaks they'll be hard to stop.
"We got off to a good start then lost to Long Flat [in round two] but our defence is picking up - once we get our defence right I don't think anyone can beat us," he said.
The Magpies will now have two home games in a row, facing Kendall Blues this weekend.
Kendall currently sit two points above them in second.
The following weekend will see Lower Macleay play in a local derby against South West Rocks Marlins.
