Need for Feed, which has been supporting farmers and rural communities in times of need since 2006, hit the road with six trucks loaded with fodder bound for Taree, Telegraph Point and Kempsey.
One of those truckloads was earmarked for Telegraph Point in the first delivery until more fodder arrives from Need for Feed over Easter.
Farmers and a retired transport operator signed on for the initial Mid-North Coast supply run.
Some of the trucks came from southern Victoria and others from northern Victoria and southern NSW.
That is just the beginning.
The Need for Feed disaster relief volunteers will return on the Easter weekend with about 30 trucks in the convoy with mixed loads of fodder for Mid-North Coast farmers.
Need for Feed volunteer Jim Parrett said he had been swamped by people wanting to donate hay.
"There is an absolute tragedy happening up there on the Mid-North Coast," he said.
Need for Feed volunteers hit the road about every six weeks to distribute donated fodder.
There are about 50 volunteers in total.
"I've always been the sort of person that has helped out," Mr Parrett said.
"This sort of thing charges me, it gives me the energy to keep doing things."
