Police officers will have a high visibility presence and will remain on high alert to any suspicious behaviour.
Mid North Coast police command's Detective Acting Inspector Peter O'Reilly said there is zero tolerance for any behaviour that takes advantage of people who are at their most vulnerable.
"It's extremely disappointing there have been a few reports from the North Shore and Camden Haven area of opportunistic criminals taking advantage of unfortunate people who have been evacuated out of residences.
"We are wanting to remind people that we are out there and will be highly visible and be engaging with our community.
"There's a lot going on within the community which has been fantastic and there has been a lot of information sharing with the police.
"We've got people out there now taking preventative measures to stop these sorts of opportunistic crimes."
Marine Area Command officers will be patrolling flood affected areas throughout the day and night, to make sure the community is kept safe.
To date, there have been no reports of steal or break and enter offences in flood affected areas. NSW Police Force has reassured the community they will respond swiftly to any reports.
The community are reminded 'if you see something say something' and if you become aware of any illegal activity contact police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or nsw.crimestoppers.com.au.
