Port Anglican Soup Kitchen with the support of Ben Cudmore's Self Seen group and Rotary West have launched the Sponsor a Box campaign to assist flood-affected families across Port Macquarie-Hastings and the Camden Haven.

The call is out to local businesses to provide monetary sponsorship to fill a box with items from food to toiletries and clothing for families who have been displaced by floods or who are facing hardship.

Hundreds of people were forced into four evacuation centres across the district this week after record-breaking floods carved a path along the Hastings and Camden Haven rivers.

Many are still unsure of whether or not they have a home to return to. Others are grappling with the news they have lost everything.

Organiser Kristie Arnold said it is a simple way for businesses and individuals to make a difference, and the boxes can be tailor-made to suit the needs of each family.

"We had one family who were sleeping on the floor of the King Creek Rural Fire station. We asked them what they needed. We had a $200 donation and went a purchased what they needed so they could get by," Kristie said.

"Many people have had to leave their homes with only the clothes they were wearing."

The Self Seen crew, lead by Ben Cudmore, will be liaising with businesses to generate campaign support while Rotary West is partnering with the supply of toiletries and personal items.

St Columba Anglican School has 30 boxes ready to go.
