The day marks the five year anniversary of embarking on upgrading the Dunbogan Bridge.
Mr Hawkins and his team began the $5 million project to safeguard the ongoing operation of the 55 year-old bridge and extend its lifespan by another 50 years.
"To see a project from start to finish is always a big milestone for an engineer, especially for my team," he said.
"We all take great pride in our work here."

About 4,000 cars use the bridge every day as a safe and consistent river crossing to Laurieton, Camden Haven and Dunbogan.
Director of infrastructure Dan Bylsma said there has been excellent work by everyone involved and commended staff for their continued commitment to get the job done.
"Sometimes we take for granted just how much work goes in to set up a successful project such as this," Mr Bylsma said.
"Undertaking design and engineering work in addition to securing sufficient funding can be the hardest part of the job, and that is before anyone starts to see the action on site."
More than $1 million is invested each year for annual bridge upgrades and maintenance.
The Dunbogan Bridge project was funded with $1.5 million by the Australian government through the Bridges Renewal Program and $3.5 million contributed by council.
